Soft tissue injuries are the ones that linger and come back, and they drive a lot of the week-to-week decisions in fantasy, DFS and betting. This chart tracks four of the most common lower-body ones, hamstring, groin, calf and quadriceps, as four lines across every season from 2016 through 2025.
Choose a team to see how many episodes of each injury that franchise had in each year. Choose League Average to see the league-wide trend, where each point is the average number of episodes per team. Putting the two side by side shows whether a team is running hot or cold on hamstrings, whether calf injuries are climbing league-wide, or which injury is quietly growing fastest.
The vertical axis is the number of injury episodes in a season. Seasons with none show as zero, so lines never skip a year.
How to use it: Set one value in the Team filter before you run it. If it's left blank, the lines mix every team together.
How it's built:
- An episode is one continuous stretch of an injury on a team's report. A gap of two or more weeks starts a new episode.
- An episode is an injury designation on the report. It doesn't mean the player missed a game.
- Counts cover the regular season only, 2016 through 2025. The current season is left out until it's complete.
- Left and right are combined, so Left Calf and Right Calf both count as Calf.
- Entries that list more than one injury, such as "Hamstring, Calf", are not counted in any of the four lines.
- The league average is the league-wide total divided by 32 teams.
- The 2021 season added an 18th week, so part of the rise in totals from 2020 to 2021 reflects a longer season.
