Odds are based on every NFL starter since 2016 with the same position and injury who had already missed the same number of games. When there are fewer than 30 such cases, the comparison widens to all injuries at that position. Only injuries suffered by Week 10 are counted, so “not back this season” reflects real long-term absences, not the season running out. Tested against past seasons, the predicted odds closely matched actual return rates.
