This calculation returns the average number of runs batted in per plate appearance across every MLB player-season in the dataset: 4,299 player-seasons from 1,937 players, covering the 2020 to 2024 seasons. The current value is 0.092 RBI per plate appearance.
Because each player-season counts equally, part-time players pull the average down. Pooled across all plate appearances league-wide, the rate is 0.114. Among player-seasons with at least 300 plate appearances, the highest rate belongs to J.D. Martinez in 2023 at 0.215 RBI per plate appearance.
Use it as a baseline for run-production efficiency when comparing hitters, lineups or seasons.
