This scatter plot compares each NFL Scouting Combine prospect's 3-cone drill time (seconds) with their broad jump distance (inches). The dataset covers 6,128 prospects from the 2004 through 2023 combines, 3,907 of whom recorded both drills.
Prospects averaged 7.27 seconds in the 3-cone drill and 115 inches in the broad jump. The two are strongly negatively correlated (r = -0.72): prospects who jump farther also tend to run faster 3-cone times, so agility and lower-body explosiveness usually go together.
Use it to find prospects who break the pattern, such as strong jumpers with slow change-of-direction times.
