Most injury tags never cost a game. This chart looks only at the episodes that did, and shows how long they kept players out. Each box covers the middle half of those episodes. The line inside the box is the median, and the whiskers stretch out toward the longest absences. A wide box or a long whisker means that injury is unpredictable. A narrow box means it's usually the same length each time.
Choose a position and leave Injury blank to compare every injury for that position side by side. Choose both a position and an injury to see just one box. For wide receivers, hamstring episodes that cost time usually cost 1 to 2 games, but the worst ran to 6. That kind of tail is what an average hides, and it's the number to have in mind before you drop a player or stash him.
It's built for the question after the first one. Once you know an injury is likely to cost time, how bad can it get?
How to use it: Set the Position filter. Leave Injury blank to compare injuries, or set it to see a single injury. If Position is left blank, the position totals and the individual positions are mixed together.
How it's built:
- An episode is one continuous stretch of an injury on the report. A gap of two or more weeks starts a new episode.
- Only episodes that cost at least one game are included. A missed game means the player's final status was Out, Questionable-Out, or Doubtful-Out.
- Because every episode here cost at least one game, the minimum is always 1. Games missed come in whole numbers, so boxes are often narrow.
- Only a position and injury with at least 10 qualifying episodes are shown, so every box rests on a meaningful sample.
- Data covers the regular seasons from 2016 through the most recent week loaded.
- Non-injury designations (rest, illness, personal matter, and similar) are excluded. Left and right are combined, so Left Hamstring and Right Hamstring both count as Hamstring. Entries that list more than one injury, such as "Ankle, Knee", are left out.
- Averages and ranges are a general guide, not a prediction for any individual player.
