## Description

Every team uses the injury report differently. Some list a player for weeks and he plays through it. Others list a player and he’s out. This chart shows that difference. Each dot is one team, placed by how long its players typically stay on the report (left to right) and how many games they actually miss (bottom to top). A dot labeled League Average is the reference point.
Teams above the league dot lose more games for the time their players spend on the report. Teams to the right of it keep players on the report longer. A team that sits far to the right and low is carrying players through injuries without losing them. A team that sits high is one whose report tags are more likely to mean missed time. The share of report weeks that ended in a missed game is included in the data, so you can rank teams on it.
It’s built for the questions that come up when you’re setting a lineup or weighing a prop: does a team’s “Questionable” actually mean anything, and does this team’s hamstring tag usually cost games? Use it alongside the weekly report, not instead of it.
How to use it: Set the Injury and Position filters before you run it. Both have an “All” option. Leave Team blank to see all 32 teams plus the league average. If Injury or Position is left blank, rows from several combinations are mixed together.
How it’s built:
- An episode is one continuous stretch of an injury on a team’s report. A gap of two or more weeks starts a new episode.
- Time on the report is the number of weeks in the episode. Games missed is the number of those weeks in which the player’s final status was Out, Questionable-Out, or Doubtful-Out.
- Each dot is an average across that team’s episodes. A dot only appears if it rests on at least 10 episodes.
- Left and right are combined, so Left Ankle and Right Ankle both count as Ankle. Non-injury designations such as rest and illness are excluded. Entries that list more than one injury, such as “Ankle, Knee”, are left out.
- Data covers the regular seasons from 2016 through 2025.
- Differences between teams reflect how teams use the report as well as how injuries heal, so read them as team habits, not as a measure of medical staff quality.
- Averages are a general guide, not a prediction for any individual player.
